MLS has over 500 members of all types; academic, public, school, and special. See a list of all of our members, or search for an individual member using the MLS Membership Directory.

There are two membership levels: full membership and developmental membership. Full membership requirements for each of the types of libraries are developed by a committee of member library staff, reviewed by members before going to the MLS Board of Directors for approval. Developmental level membership requirements are determined by the Illinois State Library's Rules and Regulations for Systems.

Academic, special, and school library members are required to submit an annual report on a form supplied by MLS. Public library members are required to complete the public library annual report form supplied by the Illinois State Library.
